オーストラリアでは，人的資本アプローチが公式に採用されている．1996年における交通事故費用のうち，死亡事故に関するものが29.2億オーストラリアドル（1999年値）で，死者数が1970人なので，死亡1件あたりの費用はおよそ150万オーストラリアドル（およそ1億3400万円）となる．
